For years my Netherland Dwarf rabbit has used a kitty litter box inside of his cage. Because the sides are not very high, I use 9" urine guards attached to the cage walls. This means that some urine hits the urine guards and drains down into the cage tray beneath. The cage design I use (Ware Manufacturing, Living Room Series) is fairly large and has a 6" tray beneath, but there is still an odor issue until I clean the bottom tray (the litter box is easy to clean daily). The bottom tray cannot be removed for cleaning without removing the urine guards, feed & water containers, the cage floor, and of course the rabbit. This High Back litter box has contained all of the urine and my rabbit has accepted a slightly smaller litter box so far.
