- Making up Milk
To make 10ml (.33 ounces) of milk: Mix 1 1/2 teaspoons of powder (3.5g) with .3 ounces (9ml) of warm water. To make 40ml (1.35 ounces) of milk: Mix 2 tablespoons of powder (14g) with .84 ounces (25mL) of warm water. To make 500ml (16.9 ounces) of milk: Mix 3/4 cup (180g) of powder with 11.15 ounces (330mL) of warm water.- Add half the water to the powder first and mix to a paste. Then add the remaining water and mix thoroughly. Pre-boil the water to ensure it is sterilized. If the water is too hot it can cause the milk to curdle. If it is too cold then it will be difficult to disperse the powder. An electric whisk can be used for mixing larger quantities. Milk can be stored in the fridge for up to a day or can be frozen for up to 2 weeks. It is useful to make-up larger quantities and store it frozen in small portions (e.g. ice cube trays), so that the required daily feed volumes can be easily thawed out. Once thawed out, discard any unused milk, and wash feeding utensils thoroughly.
Storage
Wombaroo milk products should be stored in a cool, dry place, preferably under 30°C. Once opened, store in a resealable, air tight container. When correctly stored, best before date is 18 months from manufacture.
Storage of Reconstituted Milk Made up (reconstituted) milk should be stored in the fridge for a day, or frozen for up to 2 weeks. When small quantities of milk are required, it is more convenient to make up larger batches (ie 500mL-1000mL) and store frozen in ice-cube trays. Then thaw out smaller quantities as required. Do not refreeze thawed milk.
